Hailsham Youth Service, run by the Town Council and in partnership with Hellingly Parish Council, has opened a new youth facility at the new Hellingly Community Hub, called Hellingly Youth Hub (HYH).

Sessions will run on Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm - 7.00pm for those in school years 6 - 8 and 7.30pm - 9.00pm for school years 9 - 11, and operate all year round.

The youth Hub sessions will operate on a drop-in basis, will be free to enter for local young people and offer activities such as pool, games, crafts and more, with light snacks and refreshments served.  A programme of activities such as cookery and sport will also be included.

Hailsham Youth Service, which currently runs the Square Youth Café, Monday Youth Hub, Friday Night Project and SafeHub facility in Hailsham, has recently secured funding from the Joint Action Group (JAG) for the full set-up cost of the new hub, as the benefits of expanding the youth service into Hellingly is considered to be of benefit to the local community.

Kerri Potter, one of the Hailsham Youth Service team who will be working at the new Youth Hub said "Within growing communities, provision needs to be made for the young people, and by running a free and reliable club catering for 11 - 16 year olds, our hope is to encourage the young people of Hellingly to partake in other activities run by Hailsham Youth Service, such as the Friday Night Project."

"The new youth hub will provide a safe place for the young people of Hellingly to go to receive mentorship, acceptance and empowerment, and to have fun in a constructive way, building community spirit and discouraging antisocial behaviour in the process" said Deputy Youth Project Co-Ordinator, Helen Deane who will be leading the Hellingly Hub.  "The new youth hub will be a great addition to Hellingly and I believe it will provide a safe space for many young people, but also empower them and give them the great opportunities just like the young people who attend the Square Youth Club Café in Hailsham receive.
