New Community Hub

March 2020
Unfortunately due to the Corona Virus Situation, the opening date for the hall will be dependant on the Government. We will follow the guidance from the Government with regards to Public Gatherings.

January 2020

In just three months’ time, our new social, business and recreation centre will open on The Drive, Hellingly. At the Parish Council meeting in January, the Centre was officially named the Hellingly Community Hub in recognition of the building’s purpose as the HUB of community activity in the area.

The Hub will be the home of our Parish Clerks, who will have a permanent office there, but more importantly for most residents, there will be the facility for several kinds of indoor sports; rooms for meetings, exercise, recreation, etc and a fully equipped kitchen to cater for events. The main hall and one of the meeting rooms will also be equipped with top class HD video projection equipment enabling both cable and Bluetooth connections to computers, iPads, etc supplemented by a Bose sound system in the hall.

If you need a facility for a one-off special event such as a wedding reception or trade show, the Hub could be exactly what you need. The Hub has underfloor heating throughout, wi-fi, hearing loop system, a casual coffee/tea area outside the meeting rooms and will even have charging points in the car park for electric vehicles. A brand-new play area for younger children is also within the grounds.

Our present Village Hall is almost always fully booked by a play school, and various other special interest groups; your Parish Council is spending a million Pounds with builders who are putting all their skill and pride into creating the Hub for YOU and the rest of our community in the heart of our Parish. HOWEVER: the best building and grounds are nothing more than facilities. Our Hub needs people to bring it to life.

Your Hall Committee needs YOU to let us know what YOU would like to use the Hub for, not just as a participant, but as a leader. The Hub needs Youth Groups, special interest groups (photographic, health and nutrition, tombola, bingo, whist, cooking, sewing, quilting, etc), indoor sports groups (badminton, bowls, exercise, yoga, aerobics, etc). The Hub will be an ideal centre for a Scout group, for example. We even have a person looking to put together a Magic games group as apparently the closest one is in Bexhill.

Want to try putting together something new but afraid it may not work? We appreciate that setting up a new group or activity may take a couple of meetings/sessions to see if the idea is viable, so the PC is prepared to provide two free meeting room sessions to assist promising new ventures. Come to us with your idea and let’s see how we can assist you.

It may even be an enterprising youngster that comes up with a great idea. If this is the case, then all that is needed is for you to recruit an adult to be part of your group who will take responsibility for mentoring your group.

The Parish Council will hold a couple of Open Days just before the Hub is officially opened to give people the opportunity to experience the facility, but we would like to communicate with group leaders now to show how the Hub can work for them and help them grow their groups. The more regular users the Hub has, the more the Hub will become the centre of social and recreational activity in our area.

The Parish Council is providing you with a fantastic facility: it is YOU who will make it the HUB of your recreational and social life. Come and talk to us!
