Hellingly Cricket Team - Cup Winners
Hellingly Cricket Club have celebrated one of their most successful months in recent times. Having won two trophies in consecutive weeks. Firstly, they beat Buxted Park in the Oakshott Cup final at Heathfield Park. Despite Harry Wooten making 40, they were bowled out for a below par 97 against a strong Buxted team. However, tight bowling from Dan Loveland (2/10), Dan Pellett (3/19), David Rippengal (2/13) and Arthur Rossi (2/10) ensured victory as Buxted were skittled for 58. This was the 15th instance in which Hellingly have won the Oakshott Cup, which dates back to 1921 and is believed to be the oldest 20/20 competition in the world. A week later, they were at Hailsham. Clean hitting from Will Hutchings (39), David Rippengal (35) and Adam Devlin (67) helped lead Hellingly to a demanding total of 166 from their 20 overs. This proved too much for Hailsham, who struggled to keep up with the rate. Tight bowling all round ensured victory for Hellingly. Along with their cup success, they currently sit second in Division 5 East of the Sussex League. The club, which has 3 Saturday Elevens, is always looking for players moving forward, and anyone keen to play should contact Chairman Steve Hook on 07968167338.
