Recreation Grounds

Information on the Recreation Grounds in Hellingly.

As Spring is approaching, with lighter evenings and sunshine remember our lovely open spaces and play areas within the Parish.

At present we have the HELLINGLY COUNTRY PARK including the Cricket Pavilion and Pitch, this is the home to Hailsham Cricket Club, where you can relax and watch a game on match days. There are two ponds, allowing fishing with a licence at the top pond along with play areas for all ages and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for ball games.

HELLINGLY COMMUNITY HUB GROUNDS has a play area for our younger residents along with benches for picnics. When the Community Hub is open the facilities maybe used.

LOWER HORSEBRIDGE RECREATION GROUND - this is home to Hellingly Bowls Club, Hellingly Cricket Club, Hellingly Rugby Club and Hellingly HoundDogs American Football Club. There is an enclosed play area for the children to play in a safe space and a large open space to run and play, when the sports clubs are not using the grounds.

LOWER DICKER SPEEDWAY RECREATION GROUND is home to The Lions Speedway Club, there is a small play area here along with a speedway track where the oldest Cycle Speedway Team in the country race.

All our Play Areas are inspected, annually by RoSPA, quarterly by myself (I am a qualified RoSPA inspector) and daily by the Grounds Team.

Over the next 12-24 months more open public spaces will be handed over to the Parish Council from the developers in the Parish.

Fishing: Please be advised that for the Ponds at Hellingly Country Park, a fishing licence is required. You may obtain a licence from the Post Office. Open Fishing season is from 16th June to 14th March every year and closed season is from 15th.March to 15th June every year.

Fishing is available at Hellingly Country Park during Open Season only. you will need a licence which can be obtained by clicking on this link www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence

The Environment Agency is reminding anglers that coarse fishing on rivers and streams is closed for three months from Sunday 15 March 2021

The Council also owns Peake Gardens, a piece of land on the A271 in Horsebridge, now maintained and used by Hellingly Scouts.

Byelaws
The Council has Byelaws in respect of the use of the Lower Horsebridge Recreation Ground, the Lower Dicker Recreation Ground and Hellingly Country Park. A summary of the Byelaws can be found here, or a full version can be found here.
