Sports & Social Clubs
The Hellingly Lions Cycle Speedway Club rider and veteran Martyn Hollebon, son of ‘Mr. Hellingly Lions’, George Hollebon, this season should continue to maintain his form and track mastery after so many years in the saddle, still leaving many riders half his age in his slipstream.
The honours he has earned in the past include:-
· British Champion at schoolboy level
· England international at junior level
· England international at senior level
· Runner up in the British championships at senior level
· England international at veteran level
· Runner up in the Eurovets championship
He recently represented GB alongside Brother Neil and Eddie Ridley in the WORLD FINALS in Adelaide, Australia. Martyn is inclined to shrug off personal glory because his real priority is the Hellingly Lions Club, somewhat proven by his record over the years having never missed a single league match. I don’t believe this is a claim that can be made by any other club’s members, nor achieving such honours. The general feeling amongst the Lions club is that Martyn is without doubt a Lions Legend.
While the three Lions musketeers and Lions mentor Tom Killick were languishing in 30 degrees of sunshine, we were here in this wet and cold, but we still supported them at ungodly hours (due to time differential) via the internet – well done lads.

The members of Hellingly WI would welcome any ladies who would like to come along for a visit to one of their meetings, and maybe join us in the future. We are a small group of friendly ladies who meet once a month in Hellingly Village Hall, on the first Tuesday of the month at 2.30.
We enjoy: speakers with a large range of interests, lunch outings to places of members’ choice, we visit other Wls, for Group meetings and to celebrate their Anniversaries. We have a garden party in the summer, and an annual afternoon outing. But one of the important parts of our organisation is the making of new friends.
Hellingly WI was started in 1918, so last year we were proud to celebrate 95 years of continual presence in the Parish. So, if you would like to help us to reach our 100th Birthday, DON’T BE SHY COME AND GIVE US A TRY

HELLINGLY CRICKET CLUB
Hellingly Cricket Club are a village organisation playing in the Sussex Premier Cricket League. We run four senior teams on Saturdays, with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th elevens competing in the East Sussex Cricket League.
We play a limited amount of Sunday matches, and have mid-week evening games, including the local Oakshott Cup matches, a competition that has been running since 1947. We have won the trophy 15 times, and were losing finalists in 2017.
We are very pleased to boast a Women and Girls team, formed in 2015, who have great fun playing in league and friendly matches county wide.
2017 was a great year for the under 19’s, who won the Sussex Club NatWest Twenty20 Knock-out competition, who, having beaten our local rivals, won the final played at Hastings against Cuckfield under 19’s at the end of the season.
Our annual Dinner and Awards Evening, held at The Boship Lions Farm Hotel - superbly compared by our President, Steve Vidler, saw numerous trophies across all our senior teams being presented. The night was a great success and was a fitting way to close the 2017 season.
We are always looking for new members, of all ages and abilities (we have members from 7 to a very young 70 in the club) to play or offer their services as non-playing members, making use of any skills they may have to offer our friendly, family orientated club.
Hellingly CC would love to hear from you.
